VETERANS UPWARD BOUND

Veterans UpwardBound (VUB) is a free -of-Charge program that helps veterans, who have not completed a bachelor's degree, prepare for enrollment at the college of their choice.


VUB assists veterans across Maine, regardless of school of choice, who are beginning or returning to post-secondary education.  The program is tailored to meet individual needs in a variety of ways including the following areas:

  • Assistance in completing collegeadmission and financial aid applications
  • Academic & skills assessment
  • Tutoring and computer-based instruction
  • Academic, financial aid, career and personal counseling
  • Classroom instruction in reading, writing, and math, as well as computer basics, study skills, and other essential subjects

Eligibilty

I am a U.S. military veteran who served at least 181 consecutive days on active-duty OR

was activated from a reserve component of the Armed Forces for more than 30 days AND

  • I had any discharge except dishonorable
  • I do not have a four-year college degree
  • I would like help in preparing for the scool of my choice

Veterans Upward Bound is designed to motivate and assist veterans in the development of academic and other requisite skills necessary for acceptance and success in a program of postsecondary education. The program provides assessment and enhancement of basic skills through counseling, mentoring, tutoring and academic instruction in the core subject areas. The primary goal of the program is to increase the rate at which participants enroll in and complete postsecondary education programs.

Veterans Upward Bound is 100% federally funded at 263,938 annually
